Celebrating Wine, Beer and Great food for 32 years

Image of Robert Gartner, Mr G

I started Mr. G’s in 1979 in an 1800 sq. ft. Store with wall to wall jug wines and the goal of wanting to someday become the best Wine and Beer Store in America. At that time Jug Wines were King and if you wanted a Craft Beer you picked up Coors. If by chance you wanted a 750ml Cabernet you had your choice of three. One at three dollars, one at six dollars and one at ten dollars. If you were adventurous, Mouton Cadet, Parteger and Remy Pennier ruled the French section and if you wanted Italian, Riunite ruled the World.

Mr. G’s has just completed our multi-year remodeling in what is now a 16,000 square foot store and we now offer 450 U.S. Cabernet Sauvignons( the country’s largest selection) from $3.99 to $10,000 and a total of 7,500 different selections of Wines from Around the World and EVERY Craft and Imported Beer we can legally get our hands on. We now feature a 30ft. temperature controlled Wine Vault for the best of the best.

I traveled the country to get ideas for what I wanted to be a very unique and enjoyable food experience at the store. We opened up Mr. G’s Deli in 1987 with a choice of 6 sandwiches and now offer over 75 with Quality being our main focus and I am proud to say we will be celebrating our 2 Millionth (2,000,000) sandwich sold in the month’s to come.

In 1982 I hired a young man (John Shirley) that wanted to be a cashier at the store while he was going to college. He expressed interest in learning about wine and has now been Mr. G’s Wine Director for over Twenty-Five Years and samples over 300 New Wines each month to find the New Winners to bring into our Rotating Wine Selections. To Quote the Dallas Morning News “Simply the Best Wine Advisor you will find.”

In 1985 a young lady (Mary Kay Fountain) who at that time was the Officer at our bank who took care of our account, started to work for Mr. G’s part time making gift baskets for us. To make a long story short she was hired full time in 1992 and now has the titles of Catering Director, Gift Department Coordinator, Office Manager and Company Liaison. Look up invaluable in the dictionary and you will see Mary Kay’s picture.

Last but certainly not least is Leo Velazquez , Mr. G’s Deli Manager. Leo started with us in 1998 and is the main reason why I have been able to do television and radio commercials stating that if “Mr. G’s Deli Isn’t The Best Food In Town, I’ll Kiss A Pig.” I have had to kiss the pig, one time, in over a Decade. I think that just about says it all.

On any given day you might see John, Mary Kay or Myself in the Deli either making sandwiches, ringing up customers or busing tables and it would have been Leo you would have seen assembling hundreds of our custom made wood wine tops for the store. You see, we just happen to be a group of people who really love what we do and I think that you will really love Your experience at Mr. G’s.

GREEN: Our focus with the remodel was on energy conservation. We are very proud to say that Mr. G’s uses only 175 watts of energy to light up each section of 144 Wine Selections.

YOU MUST SEE Mr. G’s TO BELIEVE IT!
